Interesting Fact for the Day

This came via a New York Times article that you can read by clicking this link

Most modern presidents have had a ranch, farm or estate easily isolated from the community around it. Mr. Obama is the first since Richard M. Nixon to be elected while living in a urban neighborhood, and Mr. Nixon soon sold his New York City apartment and retreated during his presidency to exclusive getaways in Florida and California. Mr. Obama, by contrast, is expected to keep his Chicago home.

I know it isn't great to stay focused on the past but I must say after hearing about India I wondered... What if we would have spent the last 6 years focused on the Taliban and Al Queda.

I hope that the Klan and their members go bankrupt

Hey if you don't like someone because of their nationality you have that right. I think you're stupid but you have that right but when you do acts of violence and terror I believe you should pay and the price should be huge. Anyway, I saw this CNN article (which you can read by clicking this link) and I am glad that they have to come out of pocket. - WhatIsOnMyMind

CNN) -- A jury awarded $2.5 million in damages on Friday to a Kentucky teenager who was severely beaten by members of a Ku Klux Klan group because they mistakenly thought he was an illegal Latino immigrant, the Southern Poverty Law Center said.

Jordan Gruver, then 16, was targeted and beaten by Klan members, his lawsuit alleged.

The jury found that the Imperial Klans of America and its founder wrongfully targeted 16-year-old Jordan Gruver, an American citizen of Panamanian and Native-American descent.

The verdict included $1.5 million in compensatory damages and $1 million in punitive damages against "Imperial Wizard" Ron Edwards.

The law center said before the verdict that a large damage award could break the Klan group, allowing the teen and the law center to seize the group's assets, including its headquarters, a 15-acre compound in Dawson Springs, Kentucky.

"We look forward to collecting every dime that we can for our client and to putting the Imperial Klans of America out of business," said SPLC founder and chief trial attorney Morris Dees, who tried the case.

When Senator Obama's preacher thundered about racism and injustice Obama suffered smear-by-association. Progress in Iraq?

There is a report from CNN that the Iraqi Cabinet has approved a plan for regarding the withdrawal of US Troops. I'm cautious about it since it always seems that the plans fall through. Here is a link to the story. I've also included the first part of the story.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- The Iraqi Cabinet on Sunday approved a security pact that would set the terms for U.S. troops in Iraq.

Members of the Iraqi Cabinet vote on the security agreement Sunday in Baghdad.

1 of 2 The agreement sets June 30, 2009, as the deadline for U.S. troops to withdraw from all Iraqi cities and towns, Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said.

The date for all troops to leave Iraq will be December 31, 2011, he said.

These dates are "set and fixed" and are "not subject to the circumstances on the ground," he said.

Twenty-seven of the 40 Cabinet members in attendance voted in favor of the agreement, said Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari. One minister abstained.

The Cabinet consists of the prime minister, two deputy prime ministers, and 37 other ministers.

The approved draft will be sent to the Council of Representatives, Iraq's 275-seat parliament, later Sunday, where it will be put to another vote. "There is great optimism that they will pass it," said Industry Minister Fawzi Hariri.

This is a trend that should be exposed and dealt with

Editor and Publisher has published a report on the increasing number of Anti-Obama incidents. I believe that everyone has a right to like or dislike who they please. What bothers me is the steady stream of hatred and violent reactions that keep being swept under the rug by so many. You can read the story by clicking this link.

I have included a bit below.

Local Papers Report More Anti-Obama Incidents

By Dexter Hill

Published: November 14, 2008 12:20 PM ET

NEW YORK Earlier this week we started covering (see link at bottom) anti-Obama, often racist, incidents taking place around the country, generally overlooked in the national media -- but covered by local papers. This seemed to strike a nerve with many readers so we will continue regular updates.

Local stories show that anti-Obama incidents (including physical and verbal abuse, KKK outfits worn, flags burned on front lawns) are occurring on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line.

From the Orange County (Ca.) Register, concerning an incident in Fullerton: "Two gang members pleaded not guilty Thursday to hate crime and attempted robbery charges in connection with the beating of a black man who was trying to buy cigarettes at a Fullerton liquor store." The two men shouted racial and anti-Obama epithets in the attack.

In Idaho, the Secret Service is investigating a “public hanging” sign erected by a man upset with the election outcome, the Bonner County Daily Bee (Sandpoint) reported Thursday

Obama To Meet With McCain At Transition Office

I admit after all of the mess McCain and Palin threw at the wall trying to knock Barack down I would not be in the mood to meet with either of them. I know you have to do what you have to do but McCain and Palin are directly responsible for creating the atmosphere for some of the threats that were directed towards Obama and his family.

It would not be gracious but I would need both McCain and Palin to apologize for their despicable behavior before meeting with either of them.

Ignorance Exposed

Hopefully this Ricky guy has some true friends who will sit him down and educate himself. This is what Christians should fight against.

“He’s neither-nor,” said Ricky Thompson, a pipe fitter who works at a factory north of Mobile, while standing in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart store just north of here. “He’s other. It’s in the Bible. Come as one. Don’t create other breeds

It always pains me when people use Christianity to spout their hate. He feels justified in believing that he has the right to say that another human is not his equal.

Congratulations Ann Dunwoody

This is shaping up to be a great year of firsts! From KansasCity.Com comes this report of the first female 4-star general. Let's keep knocking down the barriers. Here is just a snippet but please go to KansasCity.com for the complete report by clicking this link

Ann Dunwoody becomes first female 4-star general
By NANCY A. YOUSSEF
McClatchy Newspapers
The U.S. Army promoted the first female to four-star general in its history Friday in an emotion-laden ceremony that sparked hopes among women that the role for female troops will continue to expand.

Gen. Ann Dunwoody's elevation to the pinnacle of the officer corps was the culmination of a protracted fight by women. The military named its first female one-star in 1970, the first two-star in 1978 and the first three-star in 1996.

Women currently are not allowed to serve in ground combat, limiting their command options and roles in wartime. Instead, women have risen through the military ranks through career paths like nursing, intelligence and logistics.

Dunwoody's standing-room-only ceremony in the Pentagon auditorium drew the military's highest ranked officers. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Gen. George W. Casey Jr., the Army chief of staff, presided, and three-star generals had to stand in the back because all the seats were taken.

After Dunwoody's husband, Ret. Air Force Col. Craig Brotchie, and Casey pinned four stars on each shoulder of her uniform, women soldiers throughout the crowd cheered, some as they wiped tears of joy.

Dunwoody, 55, said she was humbled and overwhelmed by the distinction

Layoff List - Focus on the Family

The Denver channel mentioned that Focus on the Family will announce their layoff plans soon. I am actually not surprised. For me most of their recent donation request seem to gear on the negative side. I just don't think people are responding to that tactic anymore. Maybe they think more like myself "Tell me more about what your plans are, what you are going to do instead of trying to scare me about 'the other guy' "

Anyway here is some of what was on the website, you can click link for the complete story:

In October, Focus on the Family announced it would lay off or reassign 46 employees next year due to the restructuring of its distribution arm. Now Focus spokesman Gary Schneeberger has told the Colorado Springs Gazette the company will be announcing specifics on more layoffs in the next few days.

Jennifer Aniston Talks To Oprah About Angelina "Uncool" Comments, Brad

Every time I see Brad Pitt I'm interested in what he is doing now. Every time Jennifer comes on the screen or is talked about it seems to somehow go back to Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie. Jennifer has never been known for being a strong actress but she has become a person that is stuck in the past and will often do conversations/interviews just to say she isn't.

Happy 90th Birthday Billy Graham

Newsweek is releasing their How They Did It Files

Here's a blurb:

The disclosures are among many revealed in "How He Did It, 2008," the latest installment in NEWSWEEK's Special Election Project, which was first published in 1984. As in the previous editions, "How He Did It, 2008" is an inside, behind-the-scenes account of the presidential election produced by a special team of reporters working for more than a year on an embargoed basis and detached from the weekly magazine and Newsweek.com. Everything the project team learns is kept confidential until the day after the polls close.
